An actuarial valuation is an analysis performed by an actuary that compares the assets and liabilities of a pension plan. Actuarial valuations are necessary to assess the long-term sustainability of a defined benefit pension plan and can serve as a decision-making tool for the Commission.
As a defined benefit pension plan, MEPP must be in a position to pay the earned pensions of its members today and into the future. The Plan has an actuary perform an actuarial valuation of the pension fund to determine the fund's financial position and a valuation must be filed with the pension regulator at least every three years.
The Commission is committed to transparent accountability and makes the last two filed valuations available to members.
